We start from town by car, and go to Camp Barents, which is located 12 km from Longyearbyen, right below the now closed Mine 7,
From here we continue the journey on foot into Adventdalen towards Foxdalen. At Foxdalen we stop briefly at our cabin, where we collect waders so we can cross the Foxdal river, which is right next to the cabin. After crossing the river, we enter the Fox valley, with its beautifully layered vertical cliff sides. Here there are both fossils and rich wildlife. On the way back, we stop again at our small trapper hut where we eat a light lunch and get something hot to drink, before we hike the 4 km back to the car.
The hike itself is approx. 12 – 15 kilometers. Pick-up from your hotel in Longyearbyen starts at 10:00. You will be returned to town between 4 and 5 p.m.
The trip takes place in an area with rough terrain. We recommend good mountain shoes and otherwise woolen and windproof clothes, hat and mittens.

Pick up from the hotels in Longyearbyen starts at 10 am. You will be returned to your hotel approximately 16:30.

Practical Information
- The hike is around 12-15 kilometres in total. Pick up from the hotels in Longyearbyen starts at 10 am. You will be returned to your hotel approximately at 16.30.
- The hike is for people who are used to hike off road. The terrain is uneven and we will cross several small streams.
- We recommend hiking boots, wind and water proof clothing, hat and mittens.
- Hikingboots, gloves, binocular, backpack, waterbottle, wind/weatherproof clothing. We recommend hiking poles.
- Our guides are all very professional and passionated in their daily work with dogs & guests. They are certified and they participate yearly in the SGO (Svalbard Guide Course).
- On all trips, at all times an experienced and armed guide will be around to protect you from polar bears. At Green Dog safety is our number one priority.
Cancellation
- If cancelled 22 days or more prior to departure 100 % refund.
- If cancelled 22-7 days prior to departure 50 % refund.
- Cancellation less than 7 days prior to departure is a ”no show” and does not qualify for any refund.
- You may apply to your insurance company for a refund if you provide a medical certificate.
- If Green Dog Svalbard decides to cancel a trip due to weather conditions or any other reasons, you will receive a full refund!
