Hi, I’m Marcel, and I’m from Slovakia. Dogs have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, but about nine years ago, sled dogs completely stole my heart – they forever changed my life After high school, like many others, I felt lost.
I didn’t know what I wanted from life. I worked as an IT administrator, but I never felt fulfilled. For six years, the background on my work computer was a snowy mountain landscape with a sled dog team. Every day, I stared at that image, dreaming of something more.
Everything changed when I met Emma — now my fiancée. With her by my side, I found the courage to chase the life I had only imagined. I quit my job, sold everything I owned, and with our five Siberian huskies, packed our lives into a pickup truck and drove north to Lapland. We spent two unforgettable years there, living the life we had dreamed about for so long. But deep down, I always held onto one secret hope — to make it all the way to Svalbard. I’ve always believed that you have to choose your path, not just accept the one you’re given. And that belief brought us here, to the northernmost town in the world.
Today, we live and work on Svalbard, surrounded by wild landscapes and the dogs we love. These dogs are truly incredible — they ask for little, yet give so much. I feel lucky every day to live this life by their side. I’d love to share a part of this life with you — to give you a glimpse of life up here, and to show you what makes Svalbard and dogsledding so special. Maybe it’ll awaken something in you too, the way it did in me. Because the truth is: no dream is too far, and no place is too wild, if it feels like home.
