Hi! My name is Karoline and I’m from Denmark.
My first visit to Svalbard was in February, when I joined a group trip for young people. During our stay, we visited Green Dog, and I immediately knew it was a place I wanted to come back to. After returning home, I sent an unsolicited application. At the time, there weren’t any open positions, but a few months later the opportunity came – and now I’m here.
Before coming to Svalbard, I had the chance to travel in both Brazil and French Polynesia. Those experiences taught me how rewarding it is to explore different parts of the world, but living and working on Svalbard is something truly unique.
My favourite part of the job is, without a doubt, the dogs. It’s hard not to smile when you’re greeted by a team of wagging tails every morning. Their energy and personalities make every day special, and it’s a privilege to work so closely with them.
I also love the lifestyle here. It’s refreshing to step away from the fast pace of everyday life and experience a routine shaped by nature. Here, your newest and best friends have four legs, and everyday tasks suddenly become part of the adventure. It’s a simple way of living that reminds you of what really matters, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
At Green Dog you will find me working as a handler.
