At the end of the Longyear valley, there are two glaciers, Lars Breen and Longyear Breen. Longyear Breen has, over thousands of years, eroded the mountains and pushed the rocks into a huge moraine in front of the glacier. It is in these rocks that we find 40- to 60-million-year-old plant and animal fossils. At this trip, a happy husky will escort us.
We will pick you up at your hotel and drive you by car to Nybyen. From there, we will continue by foot.
Svalbard is known for its high density of polar bear, so the guide will bring a rifle and a polar dog for company and protection. We have never met a polarbear at this tour and the chances are small, so theres no need to worry. However, if a bear should show up, the dog will warn and scare it off. At this tour, you will be equipped with safety glasses and a hammer. If you find a nice fossil, you can bring it home with you. Theres no paths in the area, so you havr to wear proper hiking boots. For these who doesnt feel comfortable in hiking in terrain, we recommend that you join our cart tour on the road instead. The guide brings hot drinks and bisquits for everybody.
